IN MEMORY OF THE LATE SOLDIER

IN MEMORY OF THE LATE SOLDIER

M

onday mornings, days with heavy traffic jams,

Monday morning, day that I was born.

The adage that says,

‘The dawn of the day is a good start’

Is this the good start, heard on the dawn of Monday?

Is this tragedy, the dawn of a new day?

A day where a patriot has to warm up,

A day where he has vowed to serve his country,

A day where he has submitted to the call of duty.

O ye fellow is this a liberal act?

Is this the plot of Macbeth?

O brethren how do ye feel?

A gallant patriot ready to serve his homeland,

Lynched and stoned like Stephen,

As he shouted pleas and cries to ye,

Ye watched him smile to the heavens and say;

“Father it’s finished’’

Ye set him ablaze like the Arab Spring,

Sparked with ignition, burnt without recognition.

Ye smile within your hearts,

This poem was written three days after the painful murder of the late Capt. Maxwell Adam Mahama. May his soul rest in peace.
