  Mohammed Dauda launches maiden book titled ‘Chattel’ OCTOBER 16, 2021   Anthony Atito   448 0 Playwright Mr Mohammed Dauda launched his maiden book in Accra last Sunday. Titled Chattel, the 196 page book when disjoined simply means ‘Chat’ and ‘Tell’. The book speaks about slavery and emancipation in the late Fifteenth Century where Aggrey Tandoh, a prince of a kingdom, defies the orders of his father by freeing the slaves. Aggrey dreams of travelling abroad in his pursuit of freedom. Along the line, he falls in love with a slave and, because of his choices; his royal status is stripped, affecting his chances of travelling abroad. Speaking about what prompted him to put down such piece, Dauda said that in one way or the other, “there are numerous trials which people encountered in their lives hence such a piece.” He noted that the play was dedicated to the souls that perished and the families that broke through slavery.   Boy with head deformity needs support OCTOBER 30, 2021   admin   469 0 Social support organisation, Dorcas Madjitey Foundation, has appealed to the general public to come to the aid of 12-year-old Joseph Agbeshie who is in critical condition. Joseph is suffering from an abnormal enlargement of the head which has led to other health conditions, including improper dental formation and function. The condition has again affected the boy’s spleen, sense of hearing and sight, implying that doctors would have to “remove his teeth and rearrange them to enable his mouth to close properly.” Founder of the organisation, Madam Dorcas Madjitey, said Joseph’s mother, Janet Avuni, is a petty trader and single mother with little means to cater for her son as well as the cost of the surgery hence the call on other benevolent individuals and organisations for support.   ‘Project Ghanaian values in literary works’ JANUARY 15, 2022   admin   416 0 The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), Mr Senyo Hosi, has asked members of the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) to continue to project the country’s culture through literary works. He noted that legends such as E.T. Mensah, Kojo Antwi had produced classic literary pieces in the form of music and same could be said of many contemporary artistes, hence the need to document their creativity. Speaking at the 5th GAW Literary Awards held in Accra recently, Mr. Hosi urged the association to ensure the works of these artists were “studied and celebrated to help awaken the consciousness of Ghanaians.” He further stressed the need for writers to make their works visible on online platforms and e-book stores to attract global audience.   National Chocolate Day celebrations launched January 22, 2020  2 minutes read This year’s celebration of National Chocolate Day was yesterday launched in Accra with the introduction of two competitions aimed to publicise made-in -Ghana chocolates and cocoa-inspired artworks. In the first contest, participants are required to post pictures of themselves on social media enjoying chocolate with the hastag; ‘#MyChocolateExperience’, ‘#ChocolateDay2020’ and #EatGhana and tag the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA). For the ‘Cocoa Art’ competition, starting on February 10, 2020, artists would submit paintings inspired by the cocoa industry to the Accra Tourism Information Centre.
